Pealkiri: The Alchemyst (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel #1)
Autor: Michael Scott
Lehekülgede arv: 348 lk | 8747
Sisu: He holds the secret that can end the world.
The truth: Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28, 1330. Nearly 700 years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life.
The records show that he died in 1418.
But his tomb is empty.
The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives. But only because he has been making the elixir of life for centuries. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. That's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won't know what's happening until it's too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it.
Sometimes legends are true.
And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time

Spoiler:
„OK,“ Josh said evenly, „I've seen men made of mud, I guess I can accept spying rats. „Do they talk?“ he wondered aloud. „Don't be ridiculous,“ Flamel snapped, „They're rats.“ ** „To remain unknown in this modern world: that, indeed, is real power.” ** „At the heart of every legend there is a grain of truth.” ** „The SUV was the only car moving. Josh had his foot pressed flat to the floor, and the needle on the speedometer hovered close to eighty. He was becoming more comfortable with the controls—he hadn't hit anything for at least a minute.” ** „He is many things - dangerous and devious, cunning and deadly, a good friend and an implacable enemy - but he comes from an age when a man's word was indeed precious.” ** „You're saying we lost the powers of magic because we grew lazy.” ** „The Egyptians got it wrong. They wrapped the dead. They did not realize I wrapped the living.” ** „The Elders had nothing but contempt for human emotion; they considered it their biggest weakness. Perenelle knew it was humankind's greatest strength.”
Tavaliselt on üks kangelane, kelle kanda jääb maailma saatus aga siin on kaks 15 aastast last. Taimetoitlasest vampiir. See ajab mind endiselt naerma.
Lady Nicole Daughtry has vowed never to be vulnerable to any man. Despite the many suitors vying for the dazzling beauty's hand, she has seen the damage love can inflict and wants no part of it. Arvamus: Mulle väga meeldis see raamat ehkki on see üpris tavaline ajalooromaan.
Sisu: First there are nightmares. Every night Ellie is haunted by terrifying dreams of monstrous creatures that are hunting her, killing her.
Then come the memories. When Ellie meets Will, she feels on the verge of remembering something just beyond her grasp. His attention is intense and romantic, and Ellie feels like her soul has known him for centuries. On her seventeenth birthday, on a dark street at midnight, Will awakens Ellie's power, and she knows that she can fight the creatures that stalk her in the grim darkness. Only Will holds the key to Ellie's memories, whole lifetimes of them, and when she looks at him, she can no longer pretend anything was just a dream.
Now she must hunt. Ellie has power that no one can match, and her role is to hunt and kill the reapers that prey on human souls. But in order to survive the dangerous and ancient battle of the angels and the Fallen, she must also hunt for the secrets of her past lives and truths that may be too frightening to remember.

Spoiler:
„And I am your guardian, your bodyguard, sworn to protect and defend you. And you are making my job excruciatingly difficult.“ ** He reached forward to cup my cheek, the touch surprising me. „Please understand that no matter what I am or what has happened in the past, I am yours. I am devoted to you above all else, including my own life.“ I exhaled after holding my breath for what felt like forever. „That's pretty heavy, Will.“ His expression was impassioned, and the backs of his fingers brushed the side of my neck. „It is a burden I am glad to carry.” ** „He smiled. „We go inside.“ „I'm going to get tetanus in there.“ I grumbled. „Don't go rolling in piles of dirt and rusty nails and you'll be fine.“ „You're an ass.” ** I scowled and stabbed begrudginly at the stack before scooping up a bite with my fork, but it toppled over and plopped into my lap. I groaned and banged my head on the counter. Mom frowned, „You have to be smarter than the pancakes, Ellie.” ** „You... don't have the spine!“ he hissed with morbid, sadistic amusement. Unfortunately for him, it was mercy that I lacked, not a spine. I raised my swords high overhead. He stopped laughing when I had finished hacking off his head. ** Kate's Daddy had bought her a red BMW for her birthday. I found it to be an absolute miracle of God that Kate hadn't pancaked it yet. She drove like a blind person going into diabetic shock. ** „What about you? You stay by my side day and night and take the hardest hits of them all. Why, Will? Why have you stayed with me all these centuries? You watch me die again and again, yet you never leave. You keep trying to save me, even though you know I'm doomed. All because some angel told you to? Come on. No more secrets, you said. Tell me.”
Minu arvamus: Ooooh! Will on muidugi teine lemmik, Ellie kõrvalt.
Lisa: Jaah, esimest korda panen siia lisa. Minu meelest läks see kohutavalt hästi kokku raamatuga. Lihtsalt kaifin raamatut ja seda laulu (L)
Sisu: With languid tropical breezes caressing her breathtakingly beautiful face, Bettina Verlaine stood before the mast, sailing westward to fulfill a promise her heart never made--marriage to a Count her eyes had never beheld. Then in a moment of swashbuckling courage, the pirate Tristan swept her away and the spell of his passion was cast over her heart forever. But many days--and fiery nights--must pass before their love could flower into that fragile blossom a woman gives to only one man.

Spoiler:
"With the life he leads, this Tristan will die soon enough. Do not let his death be of your doing. To seek revenge is to destroy yourself." *** He had left her lying on the floor for a moment, butnow he was back, leaning over her. A few drops of water fell onto her face from his wet hair, but shecouldn't make out his features in the darkness. "Sorry to have to tie you up, little one, but you'vebeen a bad girl and I'm through taking chances with you. It's raining pretty bad out there, so I'm going toroll you up in a blanket. Though why I should be so considerate after what you've done, I don't know."
Sisu: Born a wealthy French heiress but betrayed into bondage, Brigitte de Louroux swears she will never be any man's slave. Rugged and powerful Rowland of Montville sees only a beautiful enchantress in peasant's rags--a wench to serve his every need. Defenseless against his unbridled passions, Brigitte is forced to yield her innocence to the desires the warrior lord arouses in her heart. But her surrender will vanquish the handsome knight--awakening within him a love as mighty and relentless as his conquering sword.

Spoiler:
"Do you know this man?" "No." "Yet you bid him sit with you, and you spoke to him," Rowland stated darkly, his eyes riveted to her frightened face. "I did not," Brigitte replied softly. "Though I did not object when he did. I couldn't understand anything he said, so it doesn't matter." "Are you always this way with strangers?" Rowland demanded harshly, ignoring her last remark. She answered quickly in defense. "I did nothing wrong. I was in need of a friendly smile." "That is not what you are in need of," Rowland said ominously *** "You are taking me to your home?" "Yes." While Brigitte considered this, he went on. "You will tend my clothes, serve my food, and clean my chamber. You will answer only to me. Is that not less work than you are accustomed to?" "Much less," she admitted. He stood up and looked at her. "I expect obedience. As long as you do not anger me, you will fare well. Will you accept your lot and provoke me no more?" Brigitte hesitated, then spoke quickly, before she lost courage. "I will not lie to you. I will serve you as long as I must. But if there comes an opportunity for me to leave you, I will." She expected his temper to flare again, but he only frowned. "No, you will not escape me," he said in a foreign tongue. "What?" "I said you had best learn to understand Norse, for there are many at Montville who speak nothing else." "You said all of that with those few words?" she asked skeptically..
Minu arvamus: Taas üks hea raamat. Alati tuleb lõpus see põnev osa. Mina igas tahes mitte.
